FFM Gutter and Home Services, LLC

Fargo Gutters, Roofing, and the Exterior Work Between Them

We run a small gutter and roofing crew out of Fargo, and most of our calls start the same way: water is going somewhere it should not. Sometimes that is a gutter dumping runoff against the foundation, sometimes it is a roof letting spring melt into the attic, and sometimes it is a soffit that finally gave up after one too many prairie winters. We work the whole path the water takes, from the shingles down through the gutter to the ground, because chasing one piece and ignoring the rest just moves the problem a few feet.

Services

What we do

Seamless gutters

Formed on site to the exact run of your roofline, so there are no joints in the middle of a gutter section to leak or catch ice.

Gutter guards

Covers sized for cottonwood fluff and box elder seed, the two things that clog a Fargo gutter faster than leaves ever do.

Gutter cleaning and repair

Clearing downspouts, resetting sagging hangers, and re-pitching sections that have started holding water instead of moving it.

Roof repair

Shingle, flashing, and vent boot repairs found by getting on the roof and in the attic, not by guessing from the driveway.

Ice dam removal

Steam removal of dams that have already formed, plus the attic fix that keeps the next thaw from building another one.

Soffit and fascia

Replacing the boards behind a failed gutter and putting the venting back the way it should have been the first time.

Siding

Repair and replacement for the wind-driven damage and hail pitting that a Red River Valley storm season leaves behind.

Service Area

Fargo and nearby searches.

About

About FM Gutter and Home Services, LLC

We are a gutter and roofing crew working Fargo and the towns around it in Cass County and just across the river in Clay County. The two trades sit together on purpose. A gutter that has been overflowing for a couple of winters rots the fascia behind it, and a roof that sheds ice unevenly ruins the gutter hung underneath it, so treating them as separate jobs usually means fixing the same house twice. We keep the crew small enough that the person who climbs the ladder to look at your roof is the same person running the gutter machine in the driveway an hour later. Travis started the outfit after years of hanging gutters and doing roof repairs for other companies in the valley and getting tired of watching jobs get scoped by someone who never left the truck. Every estimate here starts with somebody actually on the roof or in the attic, because a driveway guess and a real inspection rarely land on the same number.

Questions

What people ask before booking

Why does my gutter overflow even when it is not raining hard?

Nine times out of ten the gutter itself is fine and the downspout is not. Cottonwood fluff and box elder seed pack into the elbow at the bottom of the downspout, and once that elbow is full the water has nowhere to go but over the front edge. We check every downspout to the ground before we blame the gutter.

Do I actually need gutter guards in Fargo?

If you have a mature tree anywhere near the house, yes. Fargo does not have the leaf volume of a place with oaks and maples on every lot, but cottonwood fluff and box elder seed clog a gutter just as fast, and they do it in June, not October, when nobody is thinking about cleaning gutters.

What causes ice dams here compared to somewhere with milder winters?

The mechanism is the same everywhere, heat escaping into the attic melts snow on the upper roof and it refreezes at the cold eave, but our thaw cycles are sharper. A week of hard cold followed by a sudden warm spell moves a lot of water fast, and an attic that was fine in a normal winter can build a dam in that one stretch.

Can a seamless gutter really make a difference over sectional gutter?

The biggest failure point on any gutter is the seam, and a formed seamless run only has seams at the corners and the end caps instead of every ten feet. Fewer seams means fewer places for ice to grab and split the metal, which matters here more than in a climate that never freezes.

How do I know if it is the gutter or the roof that is actually leaking?

Water at the fascia line during a rain is usually the gutter. Water inside the house, especially after a thaw rather than a rainstorm, is almost always the roof or the attic ventilation behind it. We look at both before we tell you which one to fix first.
